Catheter

A soft, thin plastic tube inserted into a blood vessel (often in the neck or groin) to gain access to the circulation. In haemodialysis it serves as temporary vascular access, particularly in emergencies or while a fistula is maturing. It can also be placed in the abdomen for peritoneal dialysis. Handling it requires strict hygiene.
