Short for "automated peritoneal dialysis". The patient connects to a small device, the cycler, which automatically carries out the exchanges of dialysis solution in the abdomen during the night, over roughly 8 to 10 hours. The daytime is thus free of handling. This technique suits people who are active or find the manual exchanges of CAPD inconvenient.
