Creatinine

A waste product continuously produced by the normal functioning of the muscles, from creatine. It is eliminated by the kidneys in the urine. Measuring it in the blood and calculating its clearance make it possible to assess kidney function: the more creatinine builds up in the blood, the less effectively the kidneys are filtering. It is one of the reference markers in nephrology follow-up.
